For me this is the best album done by any band. Might sound crazy, but for me These Days is perfection from start to finish.

Their best effort by a mile. Nothing else comes close. It's just perfect. Even the b-sides are mostly better than anything else they've produced. Just outstanding from start to finish. 'Hey God' is a song which I will never ever tire of and it melts my face it rocks that hard.

I don't agree... I don't think it's perfect, I don't think it's their best effort especially by a mile, and I really think the bsides are just okay... Like what's up with The End?

This album is the reason I became a die hard and still am to this day.

IMO it is as close to perfection as they can get, much like their 3 albums before it, except this album had far more raw emotion in the lyrics, Jon's vocals and Richie's guitar work. Unlike their past albums, the harmonies weren't a wall of sound... you could hear Richie's vocals. There is so much space in the production. It's So Hard Letting You Go might be the finest song Jon has written. Almost every song is (at least fairly) deep and meaningful, and again, Richie's guitar is not only impressive technically but it's soulful. He didn't play the fastest licks he could pull off. He played exactly what was needed. No more, no less.

The only song I have never cared for is Diamond Ring, but it's not a bad album closer. Lonely at the top could have also worked well. The bsides are good for the most part. When She Comes will always be one of my favorites from that era.

Happy birthday These Days.
