Default Why do BJ ¢ar€ about the chart$?

Why do BJ still let chart success influence their writing? Why is being in the charts so important to them? Other artists do fine without being in the charts: when did Aerosmith last have a hit single, or the Rolling Stones? As long as BJ have a good reputation as a live band, people will continue to come and see them. I don't understand why commercial success is more important to them than critical success.

Didnt Aerosmith do a song for a movie..thats highly commercial. I think bands eventually give in to the commercial end of things at some point or other...everybody has to pay their bills. You do what you have to do I guess. Besides I dont think ppl work their asses off on something to have it fail,so if going out and promoting it to death or going somewhat commercial gets you into ppls minds then I dont really care. As far as their writing goes, I think its what they know and they stick with it. As long as they are still enjoying it and so are the fans...so be it.

Because commercial success is important. They make music as their job and want to sell CDs. It's not their hobby. And the music biz became very hard. When you don't have any success (or even only less success) anymore you loose your record deal. Look at Mariah Carey who sold way more CDs than Bj but when her last album wasn't that successfull she lost the record deal. The same for Michael Jackson.

Because of the critical success. It's always well known that things (not only albums but also theatre plays and stuff) that have negative reviews are the most successful. The critics don't like it but the people do. Why should they care about critics? They sold millions of albums even though they have negative critics. And that's what is important.

Did not Aerosmith put out Girls of Summer and Jaded from their last record? Mick Jagger also put the single out last year. So did Paul McCartney. The Lonely Road, or whatever it was called. They went nowhere but they certainly tried. Every artist who can get its label support to do that does that.

Well, Bon Jovi is successful and relevant regardless of critical acclaim. So the band can do whatever they think is right. They are in the driver's seat.

bon jovi should have more self-respect. they are releasing songs like IML, everday and Misunderstood on the radio, that is sooo wrong! release good rocksongs instead, the distance for instance (they are going to release it aren't they?), it won't be a hit, but hell, people will know that bon jovi are rock!!

Dont' get me started with AEROSMITH. they are the biggest rock band sell out in history, they had a # 1 single that they did not even write, they released a cheesy pop album(just push play) oh and yeah didn't they perform the superbowl with NSTINK and Britney Spears, if thats not selling out i don't know what is????? Bon Jovi still has good songs, and when they played the superbowl(just like U2) they actually played it wasn;t pre-recorded!!!!

Yes, but they didn't write those songs to make a hit. They just pick their most commercial songs to release.

Salaam Aleikum,
