Ray Davies Nabs Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Killers to Redo Kinks Cuts 27 February 2010
Rolling Stone article

Ray Davies has recruited Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, the Killers and Lucinda Williams to help him re-record classic Kinks tracks for a new album due out late 2010, NJ.com reports (via Twenty Four Bit). The genesis of the project dates back to last year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts at Madison Square Garden, where Davies shared the stage with Metallica, who rocked out the Kinks’ “You Really Got Me” and “All Day and All of the Night.” (NJ.com hints that Metallica might be on Davies’ album as well.) Onstage at the October 2009 show, James Hetfield revealed he wasn’t all that familiar with the Kinks when the band got paired Davies for the show. Admitting “We got completely schooled on early, early riff rock by this man and his band, the Kinks,” Hetfield introduced Davies as “one of the original punks.”

For the album, Springsteen and Davies teamed on “Better Things” off 1981’s Give the People What They Want, while Bon Jovi re-recorded the Everybody’s in Show-Biz ballad “Celluloid Heroes” with Davies, who came to the States in January to hit the studio with the two New Jersey natives. “Bruce took about two or three hours and Jon about the same, but they were well-prepped and I was very impressed,” Davies told NJ.com. “I’m thrilled to have done the tracks with those two guys.”
