17 June 2001 - Cardiff, Wales, UK Concert Review 10 December 2001
One helluva wild nite!!!

A review by Richies hat / WatkinsCR@cf.ac.uk

I've only just found this site so I thought I'd review the concert i saw in june.Wot a concert! Even when MB20 and Delirious were on stage you could sense that it was goin to be a wild night and it certainly was. The elevator sequence and OWN is a perfect way to open a show and Raise your hands and Bad name really got the crowd goin. In these arms was next and I'm glad it was played coz its one of my favourites. Jon said he thought the crowd knew the next song and we certainly did as its my life had everybody singin along. Born to be my baby followed but the you could feel the shock and delight when the first beats of Always were played. I'm so glad they did this as it proved to all the doubters that jon cans still sing. I got the girl, just older and blaze of glory were all well played but the pace started to pick up with Lay your hands on me followed by KTF (richies solo was superb) and Bad Medicine, and when they broke into Shout the whole stadium was jumpin as one. The Millenium stadium is fantatsic for concerts, especially with the roof shut coz it feels like a club with 50,000 people in it!
The first encore was These days and Someday i'll be saturday nite, these days was good coz I don't think they do it very often. The second encore really captured the party atmosphere with I'll sleep when I'm dead and tequila/twist and shout gettin everyone dancin like jon!
The third encore saw a fantastic version of Dead or alive with the crowd singin the first verse for jon and richie (the expression on their faces was great), then what the crowd had been waitin for all day. Jon started of in his own and then we give him a bit of help with the high notes before the rest of the band joined in for a top notch version of Livin on a prayer. And so the band took their bow and were just about to leave before sum welsh bloke ran on the stage and said "thank u cardiff!" Jon couldn't finish like that so he and richie did an amazing accoustic version of Never say goodbye to finish. The perfect end to one WILD night.
