1 March 2003 - Chicago, IL, USA Concert Review 2 March 2003
The Show That Topped All Shows

A review by Mike Schmidt / mschmidt@carthage.edu

The show looked like it was going to be just another show until the ending happened which set it apart from the rest! The first encore started with a birthday cake for Jon being rolled onto the stage. The band members came out dressed in color bright clothes and Richie sang a different type of birthday song. During it Jon walked on to the stage and he was just as suprised as the audience was. When the song ended the birthday cake was rolled over to Jon and out popped a Marilyn Monroe impersonator who gave Jon a special birthday song of her own along with a birthday kiss! After that, Richie took the mic and told us to sing Happy Birthday which the whole group erupted into singing. Jon was blown away. Jon then took the mic and said I owe you guys something and a second later the opening cords to "Always" started and the crowed just went nuts! This was my 5th Bon Jovi concert (including the one two nights ago in Milwaukee) and it was by far the best. On a side note, Heather Locklear was at the concert along with their daughter Ava. It looked like Ava wanted to go on the stage real bad because a security guy had to stand next to her making sure she didn't go up....and for all guys that want to know, Heather Locklear is just has beautiful in person as she is on T.V.--Richie is one lucky guy!
