26 June 2003 - Manchester, UK Concert Review 28 June 2003
Better than Wolverhampton, but just not good enough

A review by Mike Mcrock

I'm sorry, I know a lot of people think the show was great, but....

It just lacked creativity. I saw them at Wolverhampton and the set was predictable, and at Manchester I knew everysong before they played it. It was song for song the same, even the frigin order was the same!

the one time they did do something different it was electric, Lola was just great, but it wasn't enough...

The concert was also short, if we are to believe what we're told the curfew was at 10:30, which means they were 10mins under last night, and 20 on Tuesday. They could and should have filled this time.

The concert also had a huge dip in it. It was actually a much better performance from the band, and things like the Distance, and Someday I'll be Saturday night which sucked at Wolves were actually good last night. But still, they could have left after Wanted, there was about 40mins of really good Bon Jovi music played, and after that it was just lacking. I mean, what the hell is Captain Crash doing as an encore. I hate the song in anycase, but jesus, it just killed the show dead..

What's so frustrating, is I know the band can still kick ass if they want to. Take Runaway, that's the best I've heard the band perform a rock song in ages, they really really went for it, and the product was fucking electric. But because of the set, and because of the attitude to certain songs, they just didn't perform as I know they can, and as I know they should! Compare for instance Keep The Faith to the Keep The Faith we saw at Milton Keynes a few years ago with Simpathy and extra screams. There's you're difference....

One plus for this tour is Richie, he seems to be at the peek of his powers. Every solo he nailed, he had the passion, he had everything. Best vocal performance of the night, as at Wolverhampton was I'll be there for yhou....

The tour should be called, "the Tico and Richie show", because that's what it has become.
