19 May 2001 - Quebec City, Quebec, Canada Concert Review 23 May 2001
One Wild Hot and Sweaty Night!!

A review by Steve / shalabs@cyberus.ca

This was my second show in three nights, (Ottawa) and I was really pumped to see them play live amongst the Quebec public ever since I had experienced a spiritual connection between body, soul and music in Montreal last November...and I was not dissapointed.

What surprises me is how this band can entertain and put on amazing shows night after night. I have yet to leave a Bon Jovi show dissapointed...it's too bad that I had a cold so I could not enjoy it as much as I could have....enough about that - back to the review :)

They opened up with One Wild Night which immediately generated a huge reaction and had everyone up on their feet. The next 4 songs had about as much energy and crowd response as I have ever witnessed. I dare any rock band to attempt to match Jovi's energy (and the crowd's) during those first 5 songs. Too much.

After Livin' On A Prayer, things slowed down a bit for a while. The energy was still there, but the crowd was a bit more tame until they played Lay Your Hands On Me, which got the crowd singing and dancing again. Bad Medicine always gets a crowd to go delirious, with Shout thrown in there for good measure....what a voice Jon has, kneeling onstage, pushing every fiber and muscle in his body to hit those oh so high notes at the beginning of Shout.

I was shocked to hear that famous drum beat during their first encore. Always. Even though I'm a guy, I can appreciate the power of that song and how everyone was singing along and delightfully surprised to hear it. Bed Of Roses also had an incredible crowd reaction earlier in the set with all the lighters...it seemed almost everyone had blue glow sticks too.

They came back with Say It Isn't So (not the greatest song for an encore) and then Wanted which got the crowd rocking again.

The last two songs really turned up the heat and volume in the Colisee. I was already sweating, drenched from the intense heat in there and so was everyone else......when they played Tequila and Twist and Shout, the crowd's reaction was indescribable...wow.....everyone jumping and singing and having the time of their lives. About 20-30 or so huge black Bon Jovi beach balls started flying around in the crowd which just added to the party atmosphere...and boy do these guys from Jersey know how to put on a party. What a way to end an evening.....I'm speechless.

NEXT STOP: Toronto, Ontario.
