24 June 2001 - Hamburg, Germany Concert Review 25 June 2001
A rock concert isn't a funeral!!

A review by Kathrin / kathgelhaus@gmx.de

I'm angry and dissappointed (not because of BJ: THEY WERE GREAT!!!!), but because of the people. This will be a long complain, but I have to say this now and you should read it!!!

What do you expect from a BJ-concert??? This was my fifth BJ-concert and I expected it to be great like every other time. I wanted to jump, scream, shout, dance, laugh,... But it seemed to me as if I was nearly the only one who had this expectation. Only a few people around me thought the same. The rest was standing there watching and doing nothing. The atmosphere should have been great, because the weather was fine and the support acts -except Stereophonics, sorry- were not bad. Especially Southside Johnny did a good job and the crowd went nearly (but only nearly) mad, when Jon and David started to play and sing with him. Amazing!

It was difficult for the "Stereophonics" to keep the crowd 'alive' after this first climax, I know, but they destroyed the good mood totally.

But why didn't the atmosphere change, when the guys entered the stage? After each song, the crowd applauded and then suddenly became quiet. Jon and the others did everything to produce a rock 'n' roll-feeling, but in front of THAT audience they weren't successfull. They must have had the feeling as if they play against a wall. The show and the songs were fantastic, everything was OK, but this great feeling, I always have had at BJ-concerts didn't appear.
Jon and the guys weren't guilty, the people were! There should be a test before the concert, in which everybody should show that he can jump, scream and sing along with the band. People who only want to stand there without moving and showing emotions, unable to communicate with the band, should stay at home in front of their CD-player for the next time. If you are too lazy to clap your goddamn hands together, then please stay at home. BETTER 10.000 REALLY ROCKING FANS THAN A SLEEPING CROWD OF 40.000 PEOPLE!!!!

You could feel that Jon and the boys weren't happy about this situation, too. It was no 'easy-going' for them, I'm sure.

Perhaps the location was the reason for the bad atmosphere, but A REAL BON JOVI-FAN GETS CRAZY AND GOES WILD EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

I'm glad that I've seen them in Cologne last Wednesday, where my expectations were totally fulfilled. Fortunately BJ will in comparison to the other gigs in Germany recognize, that not all Germans behave sooooo boring and sleepy like the people in Hamburg.

Bye,
Kathrin
