It's the first orginial Stones single since 2006 vs. a new BJ single after 3 years and lots of singles the years before. So it's a lopsided comparison right from the beginning.
(And besides that, Legendary just sucks)
I don't see what the timeframe has to do with anything. Outside of the leftover track Shadow Of Your Love from Appetite, Gun N Roses released Absurd, their first new music in forever and it didn't do well. If your logic held true after 3 years it should be at about 40 million streams not 7. Hard Skool a track released shortly after and more in line with what people would want from Guns N' Rosese is at 20 million streams. It's very much to do with the quality of the track not the timeframe. If Bon Jovi were capable and willing to release a kick ass hard rock song it would gain more traction for sure. Very few people are interested in these limp noodle songs that jon thinks passes for rock. Legendary has no replay value to it. Angry has lots of replay value, after the initial excitement it would have fizzled out if the song wasn't a quality track.

Just a side note: none of Guns' new songs are in fact "new".

Is Legendary a great song no. It is the song Bon Jovi needs at this point in their career no. I do have to say one thing about it. Jon and the band at least IMHO sound good on the song. Whether it is Jon's voice getting stronger or studio magic their voices actually blend well together. I can listen to the whole song unlike all, but one of the songs on 2020.

For anyone tracking, Legendary has now broken 3m streams on Spotify. It's just outside the top 100 Bon Jovi songs in terms of streams. For reference, Limitless has 14m streams, When We Were Us has 11m
In terms of streams per day, it's at about 40k per day, which is around 15th in the catalogue.

I put some listens to it on Spotify myself. I finally figured out what really bothers me about the song. What exactly is it that supposed to be Legendary?

I took it to be the relationship described in the song.

I don't think I would ever describe a romanic relationship as Legendary myself. But that does seem like what he must be referring to in the song. I can't think of anything else that would make any sense at all? Maybe he is referring to his marriage? I actually think it would be more appropriate to refer to himself and Richie as Legendary. However, I'm sure he is not doing that!

In true Jon fashion, the song feels like it's about living a legendary life. The verses are all the rules you're supposed to break, the chorus is about appreciating what you have.

It really is disconnected phrase versus rest of the song, moreso than average Jovi song. It's not that it doesn't make sense, what all of you have said is fine, but it's really loose connection.

And again in modern Jovi fashion, the song's title plus the hype of new beginning and documentary brings in fans and general public to take a listen, and it's new disappointment. I've tried hard to like the song, but man it's so middle of the road, the elevator music DJ would be inclined to put it in the elevator.

The band basically for 10+ years only have ears and will to listen of 2 million people (or something in that region I guess) in the world that are ready and willing to go on their tour, to buy a ticket and have a good time. No new single will be a global hit like IML or even HAND territory. Why not just make those 2 million happy and eager with 1st single?

In this day and age, more promo does regular Jovi fan boring his friends about great comeback single by his favourite band, than any possible radio or streaming numbers to non-fans.
