The majority of Bon Jovi's audience do not stream or download, they buy CDs and Vinyl. Yes, still.

99% of Lady GaGa and John Legends audience will stream.

If Bon Jovi would release their album as digital only it would be a collosal failure without any physical product to back it up.
That's insanely short sighted in 2020.

Promoting their albums like it's still the mid 90's is what keeps this band stuck in the past.

The percentage of people that buy physical is incredibly small compared to albums sold. In the US there are very few remaining stores that even sell CD's.

To tailor the release of new music to a very small percentage of people/fans in 2020, especially when Jon has gone on and on about how topical the album is, makes no sense and is incredibly disappointing to the people who actually understand how to buy music digitally.

Not for an ageing rock audience it isn't. I work with a lot of classic rock bands, and they sell somewhere around 75-90% physical product compared to digital. Rock fans like CDs and Vinyl, they always have and always will.

They are not the same as Lady GaGa fans. As a band/record label you need to know you audence, and that is not a Bon Jovi audience.

They promote to whatever avenues they can. A band like Bon Jovi is not offered the same promotional opportunities that Lady Gaga or John Legend are.

I just assumed the album would be delayed; an obvious business decision. Can't wait til it comes out.. Despite the first 2 singles being a bit underwhelming.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking too. The band needs every extra bit of promo. The hype on Lady Gaga's career post A Star is Born, there's no reason for the label to worry one iota.

True for me. Iíve never bought an album on download only. I think Iíve only ever bought an album on download about 5 times and even then I went and bought the vinyl (or CD if no vinyl) after.

I love the product. I think the albums Iíve downloaded are all Bon Jovi albums to listen to while on the way to buying the product.

Bigger picture, the band IS stuck in the past. Their slow adaption to new technology is part of what's gotten them into this mess.

John Legends last album came out in 2016, he's had massive success in movies, TV and it's an anticipated release. Lady Gaga pulls has a giant fanbase and a lot of attention since she was Oscar nominated. Both are social media savvy and are regular to start trends online.

If your last success is what labels have to go on as far as promotion and expectations the studio side of Bon Jovi haven't done much for them since probably....2007? And we're talking 13 years, 3, maybe 4, releases since then. Why would the label sink so much money into this now for an older audience that doesn't download as much? I say as much because since I last made this point I was told more download than I thought but it's not a big fanbase. 3/4 of 100,000k is such a small subsection of people.

Emotionally, I hate it. On paper, I get it.

Was drunk, out of my mind. Sorry.
Never cared for their past 80s output anyways.

Then why do you care when it gets released?

Again, this is not Jon's fault...
