Cadillac Man

I just finally sat down after dinner - and it's almost 10:00 pm <sigh> Glad to be of help.

What happened to this song? Was it ever used in the "Cadillac Man" movie starring Robin Williams or did they just drop it or did the boys do what they did with "Always" and "Romeo Is Bleeding"?

They played it for the first time in Melbourne on 14th Nov 1989. And there's a chance that they played it on some of the other Hammersmith shows.

I don't understand how the producers could not like it that they didn't want it in the movie in the end.

I really love this song. It's just acoustic but it has a drive!!

I thought I'd post it here to save people trawling through the TY,GN thread if people just want to talk about the song itself and maybe if it gets included on the next box set.

Never paid this song much thought during the years of being a fan and coming here. I've always thought it was a nice enough song but nothing spectacular. That acoustic riff is very New Jersey-esque but (as I'm sure I posted somewhere else here) it mostly sounds like a song that could have been on Lost Highway.

Was still cool to hear some of it in TY,GN and I would really like to see the full song (in some form) included in the next box set.

Richie even played on both songs.

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing. But I don’t consider it being a rip-off, though. Merely ‘influenced by’. Both are great songs.

For me, Cadillac Man is the holy grail of Bon Jovi. I’ve loved it ever since I saw a bootleg of it from that Osaka concert in the early 90’s. I can’t understand why it was never officially released. It’s such a masterpiece, everything about it. A haunting, insanely infectious melody, Jon’s and Richie’s voices blending incredibly beautifully together, very cool lyrics.

I always thought there was no proper recording existing of the song (Obie said that?), so I was head over heels to learn they have that soundcheck recording as shown on the documentary. Jon said it will make a lot of people happy. So I got the impression it will be released at some point.

I would be the happiest kid on earth to get that full length recording one day. It is easily in my all time Bon Jovi top ten. Definitely a Bon Jovi classic.

Oh yes its a beautiful song. Its just funny how it always felt so familiair but I couldnt pinpoint why. Now I understand. But it doesnt matter, music is constant evolution.

yes and this must be the exact reason Cadillac Man was never released...

I doubt it - it never stopped them before or since.
