CRUSH vs BOUNCE

None of the singles from Crush are on there lol

If I was the marketing head at Island, I'd not only force Neurotica into the album but I'd make it the second single right after It's My Life.

I wasn't really thinking from an A&R stand point; but based on personal preference I would leave out It's My Life. The song is fine and if they replaced that "like Fraknkie said I did it my way" line would help. I do really like that little drum part after the first chorus and prior to the second verse, which can also be briefly heard at the beginning of the song.

The line "like Frankie said I did it my way" was important for Jon.

This is a much better album and would not be too far away from classic Jovi in quality.

I would leave out Love me back to life for sure, it just seems to me as non-sincere fallback on drop d stuff (while Distance,similar, I would keep). Rest is okay, but with Bounce and Undivided leading the album as singles and first songs.

Ending on three ballads?

I always thought Bounce would have made an excellent double disc album. All the different directions they were going: The multiple IML rehashes, the heavier Creed influenced songs, the Elton/Joel story ballads, the songwriter ballads. A double disc would have given all those directions some room to breathe.
Think about all the directions, the ups and downs on the White Album or even Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
They could have polished up some of the b-sides from Bounce (and Crush while we are wishing)... it might look something like this:
