I really dislike this album. It's as bad as THINFS, 2020 and WAN.
HAND is a cliche Jovi rock songs but it works especially as song 1.
The rest are just so boring.
Prefer the boxset version of LMS as well. Never saw the point of re-doing it quicker and went down as a lead balloon as show opener.

Only HAND and Dirty Little Secret are the only two I listen to.

I'm surprised to see how much praise the album gets.

In my opinion it ranks below LH, BB and (for the time being) Forever, probably around TC, Crush, THINFS and above WAN and 2020.

It can't get any close to SWW, NJ, KTF and TD though.

Default Revisiting HAND Album

Not my favorite Bon Jovi album. For me it feels like it’s quantity over quality. Loved the title track and DLS, though. And I am in an obvious minority on this board cause I think Who Says is actually a very good and fun song. Even with all the it’s all rights. But as a whole, I think the album is just boring.

On the other hand, the smirk was my first tattoo. It was and still is very cool.

And I really wish Nothing was on the album. Let’s hope it will be on the forthcoming box set.

Apart from it being from a new album, did it really? It's fast tempo and people responded to it really well at the shows I saw that tour. Granted it's the first song, I doubt the response was to the song itself but I very much disagree with the statement that it went poorly.

The show I saw had Raise Your Hands as an opener, but it was played late in the main set. The guitar riff got the crowd going, as soon as the verse and chorus came on, it was rather bland in terms of reaction. It's similar to what I've heard from people who saw it in the opening for stadium shows. The guitar built-up and Jon walking out onto the catwalk had the crowd go mad. As soon as he stood there singing his way through the song, it dropped quite a lot.

Fair enough! It got a massively loud reaction at all the Toronto shows but, again, because it was the opening song (Though That's What The Water Made Me didnt' do much). Jon walking through the crowd for sure helped.

At MK bowl in 06 it was shit.
The only thing that kind of saved it was Jon appearing in the middle of the crowd.
But 90% of the people were like- what the **** is this ...
It was a shit opener

I remember being disappointed in the album. Other than Have a Nice Day and Who Says You Can't Go Home, I didn't like the songs. Complicated is a distant 3rd favorite. However I liked 3 songs that didnt make the US version: Nothing, Dirty Little Secret and Unbreakable.

I listened to it recently and didnt change my mind. The sound of the band just felt different.

Not a particularly keen on this album. Too many mediocre over produced songs and didn't like the production in general. Some decent stuff though (HAND, Last Cigarette, Novocaine, Story of My Life, DLS). Of the others at least there isn't anything too annoying unlike some of that sickly cloying slow stuff on the previous album Bounce.

Always a bit surprised fans seem to rate this one so highly

I did not love the album when I first became a fan in the late 2000s. I thought it sent the band further from the sound I loved (KTF/CR/TD sound) which was still somewhat present in Crush or Bounce and closer to the sound I did not like (The Circle) which the band was already doing at the time. I also didn't like that it's the first album to not feature any big power ballads or even sugar-coated acoustic ballads (excl. These Open Arms)

Now looking back on it, I enjoy it a lot more for the consistency it has and the production style that Shanks brought. It's a solid pop rock record, nothing more, nothing less. Sonically, it's a big improvement over Crush and Bounce. It was powerful, modern, but Richie still had moments to shine; as opposed to the Kings of Leon-esque stuff from The Circle onwards. Jon also sounds really strong on certain songs, e.g. Bells of Freedom is one of my favorite vocals of his.
