Every band has a weak player and there is always someone out there better. You don't just kick a dude out. Wake Up People

And after the NJ tour, why would the biggest band in the WORLD break up? Money Money Money. Richie wanted half!!!!! Jon said FU....

Look, I know people (around Jon's age) who've played the Jersey scene with those guys. They are not fans. They are not haters. Just regular guys. They have told me some cool stories. Some I've already know and others like the one above. I could tell that they are not BSing me and really could'nt give a shit if I believed them or not anyway.

I'm sure there was some truth to Jon's Alec story but at the end of the day, Mr Loyal JBJ who doesn't like change, who uses the same song writers and producers over and over again, did not kick Alec out b/c he was concered with how the band sounded live. It took him 12 years to figure that all out?

Hummm, after 6 tours.... 50 countries ....... 60 million albums...... 10 million faces.... and 12 years, lets get rid of our average Bass Player for a better one.
I don't buy it. These guys knew the deal from Day 1. It was Jon's band. They were his employees. It was an odd arrangement for a band, but it was just how things worked out. I've read dozens of different stories on the Alec issue. Richie even said it on BTM - He was messing up live. They could cover it up in the studio (Hugh), but couldn't sacrifice what they sounded like live. I don't think there was a serious problem with his playing from the beginning. It just took shape during the KTF tour. Wasn't Alec in some motorcycle accident, where he messed his hand up? That could have been the whole problem.

I simply refuse to believe a band that was pissed at the CEO (Jon) about money, could possibly stay together all these years.

Alec opted to distance himself from the band, to do "other things" while the band made records, then just show up and reap the benefits of their work live.
Listen, If you're making millions, there is no such thing as "You Can't Be Bothered"

If you're making crap, that's when you lose the interest.

1. We know that Alec probably didn't play on every studio track on the first four records, as Hugh is credited on all of them.

2. As stated before, the bass sound on KTF doesn't sound like Alec at all, much more of a Huey style.

3. It's easy to notice a decline in Alec's musicianship between 80's bootlegs and KTF-Era shows.

Now, personally I think it's a mixture of everything. Before the KTF sessions Jon basically took total control of the band (creating BJM and etc.) and judging by comments from AJS interviews, he didn't seem to take that well. This, coupled with contracts, coupled with a decline in live skills, coupled with the fact that Alec had probably not been a full studio member anyway all mixed into Alec's exit from the band.
Absolutly agree. There are two sides to every story. Jon will say Alec F-ed up which he probably did. Alec will say Jon was a cheap F which is probably is.

Richie aside, I bet the other 3 don't make what you'd think they would make. I'm sure it's more than the average person will ever see but I don't think it's the Hollywood style millions either. I wouldn't be surprised if it's less than a million per album/tour. Just a guess.

I'm curious to know what Bobby makes? I'd guess less than a 1/2 million for that last tour. Maybe 300K? Any ideas?

I think Tico and Dave make a considerable amount off each show. £50-60k easy. Hugh and Bobby would be on a bit less.

No one but the band and accountants can truly know but it's a lucrative business, there's plenty to go around.

Agreed. They kicked him out and said "Finally, we can cut our hair, aim for the AOR charts and play the music we want. I'm sick of being strong-armed into playing loud rock music"

Like...are you serious? He didn't write a single thing on the albums he played on. It's so backwards that we attack people for gushing over Jon's looks vs talent when here we are saying "No, he wasn't a great bass player but he looked great I hope he comes back"

Why is it that everybody here recognizes the fact that Alec's playing wasn't up to the mark (especially compared to Hugh)- and yet finds it hard to believe that Jon fired him because of his playing.

Attributing the stylistic change to a guy who wasn't writing with them to begin with is pointless, though.

That's not what I was doing, I was refuting the point made by yomamasofat that they became soft when he left.
