Yeah, but then don't do it anymore. If an athlete is too old to keep up, it's time to give it up. As an example, look at one like Valentino Rossi in the sports world. This guy was at the top of the tier for over two decades, fighting it out over generations with the world's best and winning countless titles. At some point in 2020, he was visibly falling behind the top class, so he said last year that it's time to let it go rather than riding around getting 15th places. Sure, the last two years were rather dire, but he still got a lot of respect by saying on his own that he's past his time and stopping.
If a chef doesn't prepare tasty meals anymore, you don't keep going to the restaurant saying "it was delicious here 10 years ago" either.

I kind of get him going past the first warning in '87 'cause the band was mainly steered by Doc at the time and was just hitting the big time, so they went along since it was a crazy ride and no one knew how long it was gonna last or if it ever was to repeat itself.
But it already got kind of awkward in 1992/93 when they emphasized how hard the New Jersey tour had been on all of them and that they wanted to enjoy it more, but the minute the ticket sales overseas went through the roof, the touring schedule was tighter than it had ever been.
20+ years later, he still hadn't learned in terms of this and took the risk of almost knocking two band members (and himself on top of it) off, all for the money...
