So yeah, it could work if Jon is into the song AND moves around. He could do the TLFR version and walk at the same time (I hope) so it would be 100% better than seeing him on the verge of collapsing and getting 1/3 of the song right.
Hmm, I believe this version *is* downtuned quite a bit, so maybe yeah, in that key, with a little bit of drums perhaps, and sing the normal melody in the chorus (instead of the one where he's going down here). That could work and shouldn't be too hard for Jon to pull off.

It's a nice, intimate version but the crowd is confused. They're singing the original melody over the revised one and it just sounds messy. I don't think it should replace the original, it completely takes the power out of it.

Man...you read my mind. I remember when we had this discussion a while back and the main comment on why most people didn't want it then was because the power was gone.

I hate the TLFR version of Always. Well, maybe hate is too strong of a word. The chorus is just so weak. That version pales in comparison to the original. I'm ok with the downtuned versions people are messing around with.

If they downtuned the song from E to D, 90% of the crowd would still not notice it, because it's a sublte change when compared to singing it an octave lower (TLFR version). That's why I hate the TLFR versions of the ballads: there's the pre-chorus build up and then the chorus is a major let down.

Perfectly said!

He might even take the tlfr version, make it piano and voice only, lower down a bit the verses so that he could still have a chorus which is higher than the verses but that suits better his voice...I've been playing a little with pitch and everything on tlfr, original and demo version and it doesn't sound that bad

But the main problem with the TLFR version is not the pitch/key. The problem is that the melody of the chorus is different, such that it creates a very different ambience, removing a lot of what the song orinally was good for.

that's what i said maybe i wasn't clear! if he tries to make the key change at the chorus at the tlfr version it would still be too high for him right now, what i was saying was to take this version which is a little less "epic" and more intimate, lower down the verses and have a lowered down version of the original chorus so that he could still have that key change at the chorus... idk if i made myself clear but i'm not an english mother-tongue so it's pretty hard for me however what i cannot understand is how a 30 years old band like this does nothing to improve this situation!
