I've never heard of anyone who have heard those songs. If you ever should get hand on some of these songs and are willing to share them, you would probably get a staute of yourself in here, and cultstatus forever

There are no demos for Blaze of Glory. Jon wrote and recorded the entire thing in just a few months (February-June, 1990). Blaze of Glory, the video, made its debut on MTV on July 4, 1990.

Jon visited Emilio Estevez on the movie set. Emilio told Jon they wanted to use Wanted in YGII because the writer had listened to the song constantly while writing the first movie. Jon said he could write them a song that fit the movie lyrically and pounded out the beginnings of Blaze while they were having dinner.

Jon wrote four songs initially to record for the soundtrack. The label execs decided they wanted to make an album. Jon didn't want to write just four songs if there would be a full CD released so he told the record company that he would do the whole CD. It also didn't fit the movie to put a lot of lyrical songs into it. Jon wrote six more songs. At least one, "Santa Fe," was based on a scene that was in the script but cut from the movie. "Blood Money" was actually inspired by Sam Peckinpah's "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid." "Miracle" was inspired by the idea that the reason Billy the Kid could escape handcuffs was that he had big wrists and small hands. If any other details come into my murky memory, I'll post them.

ETA: Dyin' Ain't Much of a Livin' is the first song Jon wrote on piano. Elton John told him that Bernie Taupin would like it.

Ooooooh, that's interesting, thanks for that!

Apart from Blaze, do you know what those first songs were?

I came to think of the alternativ version of Blood Money with extra verse. What about that?

Blood Money was originally a six minute song with verse after verse after verse. He cut it down because there was a certain scene in the movie where they were considering using a lyrical song, but then they decided not to do so. I don't know if he recorded the six minute version or if he knew ahead of time that they wanted a very short version. If he knew ahead of time, he may never have recorded the whole thing.

I can't remember with certainty what the first four songs were. Sorry. I don't know if he never specified or if my brain has short-circuited. LOL I'm pretty sure that Billy Get Your Guns was one of the four.

Jeff Beck agreed to be part of the project so quickly that Jon thought he was lying to him and blowing him off. Jeff basically said, "Yeah, sure. Gotta go. Bye." Ha ha. Elton was using the same recording studio and since he and Jon were already friends, Jon asked him to play on a few songs.

Isn't there a much longer Blood Money that was done for Rockline in 1990? I'm sure I heard it - or I have it on a bootleg somewhere.

Yes, it's from Rockline. There's a verse about Billy the Kid seeing his own funeral. It's a shame he didn't release the whole song. Every bit of it we have heard is powerful.

Before my inbox gets flooded with requests, I do not have the song in mp3 to share. I wish I did. There are a bunch of songs I have on cassette that I've never gotten on CD.

Don't bug Becky - someone uploaded it to YouTube if you really want to hear it.
