Not had it this good since Bounce IMO .

Not one duffer on here apart from DWYC .

solid 8/10

I agree with you perfectly, except for one thing: the weakest and most forgettable song on the album is Limitless. It does not offer anything new in an ear friendly tune. I do not care about it.

Otherwise this album makes me proud to be a fan of band of 35+ years who are still capable of writing songs of quality.

9/10

While my own assessment is not as high as yours, that's a good summary.

Even the songs I considered turds as singles make sense in the album - Unbroken and American Reckoning.

Limitless is the weak point and it sticks like a sore thumb. I would not be shocked if it was included because the label said the album doesn't have a single. At least it's in the beginning where the rest of the album can leave it behind in a good flow afterwards.

Get rid of Limitless and this is on a similar level to Bounce or HAND for me

It's a good album, but ... is it a great album? ....mmmmm... I think not.

I think this album feels good being 12 tracks, including the bonuses. I would not replace one song with another. I think it feels balanced being 12 songs. About American Reckoning and Do What You Can, it makes the album feel conceptual, and I like that.

After listening to Luv Can and Shine, I understand that the original album didn't have any cohesion (those 2 + Limitless + Beautiful Drug + Story of Love are wildly different from each other and from the themes of the album) and the addition of the new songs makes the album the way it was supposed to be instead of having a case of Bounce part 2. It's a common old complain so I guess they got it right by most fans this time.

To me it went from an easy 6-7 to a... I don't even know, but it's a moot point anyway and I'm not really bothered. It's as simple as creating your own playlist instead of listening to the album and I sure as hell won't listen to many of the songs again so...

Depends what you are scoring it against. For 2020 BJ I would probably put it as a solid 6. Maybe a 7.
But comparing againts the rest of the catalogue it wouldn't even make a 4 or a 5. But then you wouldn't expect it to. 2 or 3 great tracks does not make a great album. There are more weak tracks here than the majority of BJ records, so let's be realistic. Everyone tends to get over excited the week of release, we need to live with it for a couple of months before really giving it a score.

So relieved that Phil was allowed to play afterall. He played all the solo's as far as I know from what's been posted, and I get why he's only proud of Beautiful Drug because of who he is but he did a great job all round I think - thank **** Story Of Love got that solo - and that was totally all Phil pandering to what he thought Jon wanted, but it was nice. I think Brothers in Arms is my favourite song though, kinda takes me back to One Wild Night. It's just a cool little rocker. Nice riff, nice quick vocals, cool bvs, cool little guitar solo.

A lot of the lead guitar sounds like Phil pandering to what he thinks Jon wants, but at least that suggests that it wasn't an afterthought and it was a guitarist offering something. I preferred THINFS on first listen, but I'm so much happier with the guitar on the tracks we hadn't heard before. I feel like THINFS had one good solo (Born Again Tomorrow, although I hate the rest of that song) - this has one good solo in Beautiful Drug, but at least guitar isn't ignored like it seemed to be on most of THINFS. And a great Mark Knopfler impression for the intro, outro and riff of Blood in the Water (surely that should have been saved for Brothers in Arms, or would that have been too much of a rip off?)

Nothing original here - it's either reworked old Jovi or yet more Springsteen wannabes, and one Dire Straits-alike, but has there been anything original since HAND? I'm just relieved that I might at least be able to kind of like this record. It's not going to be alongside any of the greats but... it does sound like a band record after all the reviews said it was just a JBJ album. NB: I didn't listen to the songs we've already heard... couldn't bare to. So maybe I just kind of like an EP that starts at track 4.

I'm afraid that it was Shanks who played the outro in Story Of Love. It sounds like him (compare to Fingerprints for example) and the liner notes suggest so.

I was genuinely surprised by this album. I give it a 7/10. I think it is better than both THINFS and WAN.

Blood in the Water imo is one of the best songs Jon has written since the '90s, except for that cheesy "Russian Hack" line. I find it just as annoying as "God Makes No Mistakes" in Welcome to Wherever You Are. This is my favorite song from the album.

My second-favorite track from the album is the bonus track Shine. I wonder if is the same song that was originally written for WAN? I could see it fitting in on that album. The melody is very similar to Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" and Coldplay's "Amazing Day".

Luv Can is my third favorite. I like the chorus of voices at the end of song, kinda like my favorite song from THINFS, I Will Drive You Home. I can see why it and Shine were moved to bonus tracks though, they don't quite fit with the rest of the album.

Limitless feels like it belongs more on THINFS or BB than this album. It's as out of place as Who Says You Can't Go Home would be on TD.

Though I much prefer the original rock version of Who Says You Can't Go Home, I actually like the country duet version of Do What You Can more than the original.

Brothers in Arms reminds me a ton of "Flesh and Bone" from the Box Set. Very late '90s vibe.

Beautiful Drug sounds like an modern re-write of one of my least favorite BJ songs, Bad Medicine. I was hoping it would have more of a "This is Love, This is Life" kinda vibe from the brief snippet we got a couple months ago.

I agree with everyone who says Unbroken works as an album closer.

Lower the Flag feels like it could have built up to something bigger, and they totally should've had David sing that repetitive bridge part that Jon talked over.

Story of Love is a good song, but not amazing IMO. I like the long solo at the end though, just wish they didn't fade it out like Walk Like a Man so we could hear the whole thing.

Let it Rain is a fairly standard post-2020 Bon Jovi song that would fit just as well on THINFS as 2020. Not amazing, not terrible.

American Reckoning is pretty good, but nothing to write home about, much like Let it Rain.
