Well, I guess that even if Richie played on it, the current line-up could have re-recorded it since they have been in the studio. If Richie didn't co-wrote it, that is.

These type of releases are to fulfill Record Co. contract obligations. The label releases them, not Jon. Depending on how these contracts are written and who owns what publishing rights, they could still be released and Richie could still receive royalties. Just because Richie walked off a tour and refuses to partake in the new album doesn't mean that all prior recordings become void...

There is no new album so there is no rush to promote it. This is for die hards only so the same promotion won't take place as if it was a major release.

This will hit the die hard fan base quick and hard. I also belive this is the purpose of Jon's upcoming little tour...

My hope is that this release is in fact, the second box set. Maybe with the upset of the NJ Special Edition release not selling, they scrapped the idea of spreading that project out to the other albums and continued to do a box set.

Just like from 2000 to 2010, Jon has to release X albums by contract and this is just another one of those compilation fillers. And if so, my guess is that it's more then just 1 CD too... or maybe this will be part 1 of a 3 or 4 disc mini seller. Either way, it's very exciting and maybe another hope of finally getting the infamous Cadillac Man...

I also assume that this is some sort of "outtake compilation", but something tells me these songs will be left-overs from 2004 onwards.
