Default U2 The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 Welcome to the Nostalgia

U2 will do a 30th anniversary commemorative tour of their classic album The Joshua Tree. It seems that Bono and company know that they are no longer relevant, and they need now to dust off the glories of the past. A pity that did not do in 2011 with their another classic album Achtung Baby, it would have been awesome revisit the ZooTv tour, 20 years later.

- Hey Jon, look what your idol Bono does, for when a SWW commemorative tour?

I think this was going to happen regardless of how "relevant" they would be in 2017. We'll probably get another remaster of the album that will be even more expensive than the 20th Anniversary one.

I hope that this remaster is worth it, the last one they threw was a scam.

I thought the 2007 remaster was decent. No brick-walled mastering like most remasters you get. I never really listened to the bonus disc if I'm being honest. I think I just caved on the Deluxe box set edition because I never owned the album before (My parents had the original CD version previously) and back then I was 21 and had more disposable income.

The 30th Anniversary edition of the album is up for preorder on Amazon.co.uk now. There's a 2CD version and a 4CD version. The original album is listed as The Joshua Tree 2007 so I'm assuming it's the same remaster as the 20th Anniversary CD. The 4CD Super Deluxe Edition is £84.99 so I'm passing on that one. The 20th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition was nowhere near that much in 2007. I'm quite keen on hearing the new remixes out of interest but that's it really. Also I'm not keen on the white colour.

Just saw the opening night of the tour in Vancouver last night. It was amazing to see not only Joshua Tree songs that were played for the first time live (red hill mining town) but also see songs debuted that haven't been touched in two decades like A sort of Homecoming. And opening with Sunday Bloody Sunday was amazing.

Thank for the info - I didn't realise the tour had started.

Just watched the video of the new song they played. Little bit underwhelming but might be a grower.

I'm glad you had a blast, it's a shame I won't be able to attend this time.

The setlist seems amazing on paper. A complete shake-up from the previous tours. But after looking through some performances on YouTube I was disappointed by Bono's performance.

Firstly, that Red Hill Mining Town performance was just a mess. He just can't sing the chorus at all, perhaps that's the reason why it was never played even in 1987. Secondly, I was hoping that he would sing With or Without You like on the record, at least for this anniversary show (with those "oh-ohs"), but he sang it the same way he has for the past few tours. And lastly, during Miss Sarajevo they had Pavarotti's parts on playback as supposed to Bono's singing, which was still able to do as recently as 2011. I'm sure it was amazing live in person, but from YouTube it doesn't seem like it was their best night.
