Let’s go back in time a little, more precisely during the “Keep The Faith” and “These Days” era, also know as the “dark period” of Jon’s life (Especially KTF). The band had changed, the lyrics were dark (But, somehow, with some optimistic message behind), and the music had a heavy feeling. The favorites music of the fans are from these eras, the bests Bon Jovi's music are form these eras (Even if you don’t like them, they are the bests musically speaking).
“Crush” and “Bounce” era, the worst songs than ever, the “3 minutes of optimism” kind of songs.
Ok, so, why am I saying that? What is the difference between KTF/TD and Crush/Bounce eras? During KTF/TD era, Jon was sad that time, angered with his own life. During Crush/Bounce era, Jon was full of happiness.
After all this I have conclude: Jon sad/angered IS the solution for a better band THIS time.
Fortunely, in this new forthcoming album, until now, the songs are powerful again, with deep and not so optimistic lyrics (“Have A Nice Day” and “Last Man Standing”, from what we’ve heard until now. More like a KTF kind of lyrics). Recently, Jon said to Billboard that the new album isn’t so optimist like he once said.

Ok, I do agree with some of what you said, mainly how KTF and TD are the best albums and how these new songs do represent a move back towards that style of writing, which can only be a good thing and I do agree that when Jon seems a bit pissed off or disalousioned, he dose seem to write his best lyrics. However alot of what you said is totally wrong.

Jon has said many times that the grey period of his life was from 90-91. Now some of those feelings may have influenced songs on KTF but that is clearly the most optimistic album the band has ever made, so I totally disagree that Jon has to be on a downer to write good songs.

Jon and Richie have said many times that they are shocked at how dark These Days turned out to be because they wrote it at one of the happiest times in their lives.

I also strongly disagree about what you said regarding Crush and Bounce.

Interesting theory but it dosen't hold to much weight with me.

I also made a little mistake there, you are right when you say that the grey period of Jon’s life was from 90-91, and I do know that during TD the band was really happy, well, but the album doesn’t show that (That is what I’m trying to say).

Jon says he doesn't understand why These Days turned out to be such a gloomy album when all the members of the band were going through a happy spell. So there. It's a mystery :P

i think jon should quite with the LOP/IML rewrites, and find some other inspiration.

These Days may be very much a springsteen-esque album, but it wasnt half bad...on Crush/Bounce he doesnt seem to have an awful lot to write about. His blue collar ballads just fall flat (Joey, Right side (one of his better ones though).

Bounce was supposed to be an optimistic approach to the aftermath of 9/11, emphasising hope and plus, not all the tracks are about 9/11 anyway. I think Bounce to me is just a second-first impression to the "new" generation of Bon Jovi fans.

It's kinda funny, to me at least, Crush lacked blues. Or soul or whatever you want to call it. Richies playing lacked a certain umph. There was no blues licks or melodies like on past records. Bounce simply lacked fun. Even if you dont' like Crush, you can't deny there's a certain amount of fun. It's a bit ironic. Crush had a whole lot of bounce to it, and Bounce had WAY too much Crush. Wow that was lame.
