Default 2018/2019 Australia Tour

Bon Jovi to rock Gold Coast AFL stadium on 2018 Australian tour
Suzanne Simonot, Gold Coast Bulletin
September 15, 2017 10:00pm

BON Jovi are set to answer Gold Coast music fans’ prayers next year when they bring their 2018 Australian tour to Metricon Stadium.

Leading promoter Paul Dainty, president and CEO of TEG Dainty, said he had been working to deliver local music fans a stadium show at the home of the Gold Coast Suns AFL team.

“When Bon Jovi tours next year, I’ll bring them to Metricon,” he said.

“We had something for February next year but we couldn’t get it in there with the Commonwealth Games but we’ve got Bon Jovi coming in 2018/2019.”

The “something” is believed to have been The Queen tour featuring Adam Lambert.

Mr Dainty’s local partner Billy Cross, from Cross Promotions, said a Bon Jovi show at Metricon followed by the two-day SandTunes festival at Coolangatta would help put the Gold Coast back on the summer live music map.

“We had the Big Day Out back in the day and we knew how good that was for the local economy,” Mr Cross said.

“Having something like this and HangOut takes it to another level. It’s exactly what we need.

“We need something to fill that void in summer.”

The stadium show would be the first concert at Metricon since the Gold Coast Big Day Out in 2014 — the year of the touring festival’s last stand.

The city was left with a gaping $60 million hole on its summer events calendar in the wake of the demise of the Big Day Out and dance music festival Summafieldayze.

“We need to entice promoters to come to the Coast and use Metricon,” Mr Cross said.

“It’s the best stadium in the country but we need to do more to entice them.”

TEG Dainty was formed last year after TEG, the Ticketek owners formerly known as Nine Live, bought Mr Dainty’s company Dainty Group.

Hermann Vorster said yesterday Mr Dainty and his SandTunes festival partners had attracted acts such as Queen, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Guns N Roses, Eminem, Bon Jovi, The Jersey Boys and the Rolling Stones to various locations around the world.

“It would be my hope that they would do precisely the same on the Gold Coast, seeing as they’ve got this particular festival up off the ground,” he said.

METRICON’S BIG GIGS
1. The stadium welcomed its first major rock concert in 2001 when KISS brought their Farewell Tour to the venue, known then as Carrara Stadium. Alice Cooper played the venue the following night before it was redeveloped and renamed Metricon Stadium.

2. Ten years later, the Foo Fighters rocked Metricon’s socks off in December 2011, setting the all-time attendance record for any event there with a sold-out crowd of 37,000 people. The show — and the stadium — later featured in the Foo Fighters film clip for These Days.

3. On January 19, 2014, the venue welcomed acts including Pearl Jam, Blur and Arcade Fire when it hosted the Big Day Out for the first time — a show that sadly turned out to be the last ever Big Day Out held on the Coast.

Nothing official but I'm surprised it's even on the cards! Summer 2018/2019!

Just re-reading the article...

"“When Bon Jovi tours next year, I’ll bring them to Metricon,”

"When"... Not "if". This guy is the CEO of Dainty Group, the leading tour business in the country, so he should know inside information? This totally fits in with the rumours of next year's schedule...

March - North America
May - Europe
July - North America
December - Australia

Maybe fit in some Japan shows before Australia (and possibly New Zealand)?

Yeah I didn't want to get my hopes up since nothing official's been announced yet, but the timeline makes sense.

Rumour File: We’ve just had our first AFL grand final entertainment tip-off
ROSS AND JOHN THE RUMOUR FILE

The radio segment that usually tells Melbourne who’s performing at the AFL grand final has had its first rumour about the 2018 entertainment.

Ross and John’s Rumour File was first to report The Killers would grace the MCG last year, making it three of the past four entertainers revealed on 3AW.

THE RUMOUR FILE’S HIT LIST
2017: The Killers (correct)
2016: Sting (correct)
2014: Tom Jones (correct)

And today the Rumour File was told Bon Jovi will be coming to this year’s game.

The US rocker is best known for 1986 anthem Livin’ On A Prayer and 2000 hit It’s My Life.

“That’s despite the fact I was last week speaking with the man in charge of booking the entertainment and he said no one has been booked,” Ross said.

“Mind you, he did say ‘What’s wrong with you blokes, you’ve normally had a rumour by now’, so there it is.”

More rumours pointing to a summer 2018/2019 Australian tour. Though the AFL Grand Final is held the first weekend of October, so that's earlier than expected, if true.

Personally, I'd rather the band not do the AFL Grand Final. Meat Loaf made headline news, which is still spoken about today, after his poor performance in 2011 (just google Meat Loaf AFL and take a look at some of the headlines). Bon Jovi will be ripped to shreds if they serve up what theyre currently dishing.

On the plus side - yay! More talk of an Oz tour.

Yeah, I'd be super nervous if Bon Jovi did the AFL GF. (Doubly so if the Eagles are playing, not that I'm counting chickens or anything...)

Hell, GF performances that aren't even that bad get ripped apart, so Jon would pretty much have to rediscover early 90s-level vocals not to make headlines for the wrong reasons.

When Richie did the NRL Grand Final they got a lot of critisicm. At this day Richie didn't had his voice up to his normal standarts but Bon Jovi can't make it any better and because he is known as a singer and much more famous this will produce a lot of bad headlines.
