I thought Lost Highway was not done by him?

It's crazy how easy it is to hear which ones are not done by shanks. They sound so, free, open and not muddled.

That's complete rubbish. If you didn't know which ones were produced by who, you wouldn't have any idea.

I agree, you wouldn't really be able to tell who produced which track unless you read the liner notes. I presume it was all mixed by the same person anyways, so it had a cohesive sound. I think this is their best sounding record in the last 20 years, personally. It didn't have any of that sterile sound that Have A Nice Day, The Circle and WAN had, in my opinion.

I agree that it's somewhat overstated, but I don't think its rubbish. I can never imagine Shanks producing Make a Memory or Seat Next to You sounding like it sounds, subtle and full of space and dynamics for 2007. Just listened to Seat next to you again. You can easily hear every instrument, you can follow their melodic lines, everything that you cannot do in most of Shanks mush work. And it's not a question of mixing, mixing is of course world class for a band of Jovi's status

A lot of what you talk about really can be taken care of and fixed in the mixing and this is overseen by Jon. But maybe Shanks just records too much instrumentation which makes it sound "mushy", and should just go for a minimalistic approach at times. I do wish that they had stuck with Huff rather than Shanks. But it is what it is. The songs on the Greatest Hits were produced by Howard Benson, but they could have been Shanks to my ears. So as it's been pointed out before Jon has to take some of the blame for how the records sound. Then again, I hear other records that Shanks has worked on and some of it has a similar sound to Jovi records. Some of them sound much better. At the end of the day Shanks is an employee who does what his boss wants.

What Do You Got? was produced by Howard Benson.

This Is Love, This Is Life and the others 2 new songs not...

There are also a couple of pics in May 2010 when Jon and Richie were with Shanks in Jon's recording studio to record two new songs..

Yeah you're right, but I mean - What Do You Got doesn't sound any different from the Shanks stuff to me...honestly none of the greatest Hits new tracks did anything for me so I didn't pay then a huge amount of attention, but i always hated What Do You Got.
